The Mission
When asked “why are we here?” Charles Bukowski wrote: “We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
The world is fraught with unimaginable hardships, both internal and external; we are brought to this Earth with no pre-established notions, no purpose, no direction. And yet it is thanks to this absurd circumstance that we can make our lives ineffably beautiful.
To be a human, to lead a meaningful existence, is to love, to rejoice, to struggle, to fall down, and to rise, time and time again and against all odds.
All it takes is some D*mnGoodThinking.
Enter the Recovering Perfectionist
Hi, my name is Savvas and I am a recovering perfectionist.
It all started with an idea. This was no regular idea, naturally, it was my life's calling. I have come to realize that your purpose, if you believe in that sort of thing, is a concept that is almost completely detached from you. It is something you have no control over. You cannot will it to materialize, you cannot force it into existence, you cannot conjure it using magic words or pills or potions. And, most crucially, your purpose is not birthed out of happiness or joy, but out of desperation and struggle. This desperation will find you at some sort of rock bottom--it may be emotional, spiritual, physical, or mental. You will *know* it when it hits you. I got called to be a writer. I am no good at it yet, maybe I never will be any good at it. But it is something I cannot ignore, not any longer. This incessant need to explore and experience life through writing, through storytelling is the reason why I created DamnGoodThinking.
Damn Good Thinking is a vessel for me to share some of the stories that have shaped and continue to shape my life and my thinking. They are stories of people that I admire and ideas that have intrigued, puzzled, and delighted me through the years.
